HUF 333,960,214 in funding for the large-scale application of the Water2Farm irrigation water treatment solution and the development of the supporting cloud-based precision agriculture service

The project entitled “Development of the large-scale application of the WATER2FARM irrigation water treatment solution and the supporting cloud-based precision agriculture service”, project ID 2020-1.1.2-PIACI-KFI-2020-00088, received funding.

By physically treating irrigation water, Water2Farm devices influence the size and physical properties of useful substances in the water, thereby positively affecting plants’ nutrient uptake capacity. As a result of the treatment, the water dissolves the mineral salts and other substances it contains more effectively, allowing plants to absorb them more easily and quickly, substantially improving internal quality parameters and resistance to diseases.

The project involved the development of the 2-, 3- and 4-inch versions of the Water2Farm irrigation water treatment device for use in large-scale environments and making them suitable for mass production. Research was carried out on the efficiency of Water2Farm technology by extending previous tests to 12 representative plant species, under different soil types and irrigation methods, and on applying the technology to plant stress situations, with a particular focus on irrigation water savings.

A further objective was to develop a data collection and evaluation precision agriculture service portal based on the Water2Farm device, to develop the relevant models and best-practice procedures, to disseminate research results and to prepare Water2Farm for international market entry.

The project was implemented between 17 April 2021 and 16 April 2024. Project No. 2020-1.1.2-PIACI-KFI-2020-00088 is implemented with HUF 333,960,214 in funding from the National Research, Development and Innovation Fund, under the Market-driven Research, Development and Innovation Projects Support programme (2020-1.1.2-PIACI KFI).
